There are days when I wake up and I say, “I don’t even want to get out of bed”, because I know that the same problems I had the night before, are still there waiting for me in the morning. I have days where I complain to God that He isn’t telling me what to do. And then I ran across this scripture and comment on social media, and I felt the conviction in my soul as I realized that God has told me – many times – what to do…
Psalm 149
1 Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people.
2 Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King.
3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.
4 For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.
5 Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds.
6 May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands,
7 to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron,
9 to carry out the sentence written against them— this is the glory of all his faithful people. Praise the Lord.
Re-read verse 6. A couple of times even.
“Praise isn't just a song; it's a two-edged sword in our hands.
When we lift up the high praises of God, we are taking our stand in the spiritual realm.
Don't let the silence of your circumstances keep you quiet.
Use your worship to push back the darkness and declare the authority of King Jesus over your life.
Your worship has power. Use it.”
Wow!
A two-edged sword is designed for maximum combat versatility. It allows the user to cut, slash, and thrust from multiple angles without needing to reorient the blade. It enhances speed and is ideal for fighting in tight formations.
- Hebrews 4:12: "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart".
- Revelation 1:16 (referring to Jesus): “In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword.”
Praise – the Word of God – is our sword. And it doesn’t just work one way. It doesn’t just cut through crap and make me feel better. Praise – in particular praise scripture – is a weapon against the powers, principalities, and rulers of darkness and wickedness. Paul tells me (via the Ephesians) that all the while I feel like I’m fighting other people, financial problems, health issues, or government regulations – I am in fact fighting (or rather I should be fighting) the powers of the unseen world. And the ONLY weapon I have to do so is the Word of God – especially PRAISE!
- Ephesians 6:12 (KJV): “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
There is nothing the devil and his demons hate more than praise going to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He cannot stand in the presence of Praise to God. He has to flee. We should be praising and speaking life scriptures 24/7. Therein lies our power. Therein lies our healing. Therein lies our answers.
Let’s take a few moments to write out some personal praises. I will get you started – but continue your personal praises as well:
God is not silent. He is not absent. He is here. And He is there... God is holding me right here – AND He is on the throne in heaven with His power – AND He is in my future with my answer, with my healing, with what I need. God goes before me, and behind me, all around me, and within me. Nothing and no one can touch me. I am surrounded. In the praise that I give, God is defeating the devil and all his demons. With the sword of praise, I receive victory. I win!
God is Truth. God is Holy. He is Loving and full of Compassion. God is FOREVER-Faithful. He is Father – my Abba. He is my closest Friend. He is my Savior by the blood of Jesus… my constant companion in the Holy Spirit. God is my Light when it’s dark… my Joy, even when I’m sad. God is Wonderful. He is the One Who leads me. God still makes things happen supernaturally. He’s the Whisper in the wind… and the Roar of the ocean.
He is my Forgiver – for more times than I can count.
Blessed be the Name of the Lord – Blessed is our God – Great is His Faithfulness to all generations.
I raise a hallelujah, in the presence of my enemies.
I raise a hallelujah, louder than the unbelief.
I raise a hallelujah, my weapon is a melody.
I raise a hallelujah, heaven comes to fight for me.
