For as long as Dana and I have known each other, whenever we get to a situation that's tricky or that has a rather large exclamation point to it – we refer to it as “the Big Fig Newton”.

Have you ever watched the sitcom, Newhart? Stephanie is a character on that show. She’s a spoiled rich girl, who finds herself in need of a job, and becomes a maid for a small Vermont inn. And on the occasions when she realized she’d done something wrong . . .

Do you ever feel like you’re “out of step” with God? I know I do. Sometimes I feel like I’m running ahead and just waiting for God to open doors. Other times, I find myself picking up rocks, . . .

Life is full of choices: snooze button or get up; what to wear; caff or decaf; do I want fries with that . . . and those are the easy ones.

At the risk of being too personal, and not at all professional – I am going to give you a glimpse into my hedge. The remainder of this blog is my actual conversation between Father and child.

I come from a long line of worriers . . . of fretters. And I think it still continues generationally. Worrying is a natural human reaction. But of course the Bible gives us some 365 scriptures that say “don’t worry” or “don’t fret”, etc. . . yes, at least one for every day of the year.

Ever tasted flour? How about a teaspoon of salt? Oooo – baking powder. Now there’s a “yummy treat”. Not so much, huh. . . Have you ever wondered if you’ve messed up so badly that God couldn’t possibly still use you . . .

Parenting is hard. As we come up to Mother's Day, I have to admit . . .

God is giving us 3 steps or strategies to do in our waiting. I am always looking for handles in life – and here in Lamentations – a book of the Bible that few people ever read – are 3 such handles/steps/strategies.
